Kids Dentist in Roseville CA
Children begin to get their baby teeth during the first 6 months of life. By age 6 or 7 years, they start to lose their first set of teeth, which eventually are replaced by secondary, permanent teeth. Without proper dental care, children face possible oral decay and disease that can cause a lifetime of pain and complications. Today, early childhood dental caries—an infectious disease—is 5 times more common in children than asthma and 7 times more common than hay fever.
Children are not just small adults. They are not always able to be patient and cooperative during a dental exam. Dr. Sri knows how to examine and treat children in ways that make them comfortable.
Preventive Dental Exams & Cleanings
Starting with when the first tooth comes in or at age one, whichever comes first, it is best that you bring your children in to see us for regular dental checkups so we can help your child to prevent cavities (tooth decay) before they start, and to diagnose and treat any problems early. Dr. Sri will even keep an eye out for signs of orthodontic problems in kids of ages 8 – 10 so they can be taken care of as soon as possible.
Fillings and Sealants
When your child’s permanent molars (back teeth) grow in, we can coat them with a special filler called a “sealant,” to smoothen the surface and block out the food and bacteria from getting into the crevices of the teeth surfaces. Cavities (little holes in the teeth) need to be cleaned out and filled so that they do not get worse. If not treated, cavities can get worse and cause tooth pain, and they may result in loss of the tooth. For most children, we can use tooth-colored fillings that blend in with the rest of the tooth.
